(a) Where both P.falciparum and P.vivax are highly prevalent, then tests with specificity for each species may prove valuable - P.falciparum (HRP2) and P.vivax (Pv-pLDH) may be combined with or without a pen-specific antibody. This can offer some advantages in detecting dual infection by the two species.

Where HRP2 deletion mutations pose high risk of test failure, tests can be multiplexed to select for Pf-pLDH and HRP2. This may improve detection of P.falciparum malaria.
